One of the most important thing your lawn needs to be green and healthy is water. There are a few mindsets on how to water your lawn and we’ll give you our suggestions in this post.
For most of the year, rainfall will provide enough water to your lawn to stay in good shape and grow strong. On the other hand, when hot weather arrives, your lawn will need a little additional water and here are some tips to help you maximize your lawn’s health.
Signs your Lawn doesn’t have enough Water
There are two easy ways to see if your lawn has enough water. First of all, if footprints remains in the grass, it’s the best indicator you’ll have to water your lawn soon. The second one is pretty simple, if your lawn looks fade and you don’t see the greenish color of it as much as you usually do, it’s time you get the sprinklers out.
When to Water?
In most of the cities, there are water restrictions that everyone has to follow du to population growth and hot periods. To maximize the effect of watering your lawn, you should water deeply at least 1-2 times per week.
The ideal moment to water your lawn is in early morning (5-10 AM) since your lawn will have a full day to dry. We do know that it’s not possible for everyone to water the lawn in the morning except if you have a water timer or a sprinkler system and this is why you should aim for late afternoon (5-8 PM) if not available in the morning. Watering the lawn in the afternoon when the temperature is at its peak won’t give you the maximum of it since there will be a lot of evaporation.
How Much to Water?
You should always water the lawn around one inch deep. Doing otherwise could get your grass in dangerous conditions. For example, if you water the lawn too much at night, it will stay humid and chances are your lawn will catch a disease. On the other hand, if you don’t water deeply enough, the roots won’t grow enough and it will get complicated during hot periods. To help you know how much you water, you can either use a rain gauge or simply put a pot on the ground while your sprinklers are watering the lawn.
Get Rid of the Weeds
Weeds have a huge impact on your lawn’s look. Not only do they take space, but they are just like grass, they need water and nutrients in the soil. If you take time to pull them out, you will save nutrients and water for your grass and be sure to maximize the look of it.
Be sure to keep in mind that quantity is more important than frequency and you’ll be all set.
